Mariana Hardwick 30 Year Anniversary Retrospective - Opening Night -
To celebrate a momentous 30 years in Australian Fashion Mariana Hardwick put together an amazing retrospective exhibition. The exhibition allowed women from around Australia to share their Mariana Hardwick experiences though stories, photographs and their cherished wedding gowns. Guests were astounded by the sheer size of the exhibition that also included lots of amazing historical printed material, photographs and memorabilia dating back to the late 1970’s. The opening event was a spectacular night as current and past staff including ex MH designer Megan Park, fashion industry media and of course the brides included in the exhibition celebrated this momentous milestone in the brands history.

Entry Five
26/09/2011, 10:00am, Musee Du Louvre
Final Day in Paris!
Today has been a beautiful 26 Degree Autumn day. Being my last day, I decided to visit the Musee Du Louvre. Over the weekend, I managed to visit a number of other museums- Le Maison Europeenne De Photographie, Musee Carnavalet of French History and the Musee Victor Hugo. As well as the art itself I have been inspired by the interiors of these old apartments, the wall paper, the frescos even the fittings- door handles etc…
The interior of the Louvre was no exception. In particular, Napoleon III apartments which have been restored and styled to appear how they would have been during his reign. The level of detail and opulence is breathtaking, and to walk through these rooms is a beautiful experience.
After a day of art, walked home in the sunshine, brought my last croissant, then back to the apartment for a quick sketch and now to pack!.. See you back in Melbourne.

Entry Four
25/09/2011 12:00pm, Marche aux puces de la Porte de Vanves, Paris
First Flea Market Experience!
Having never been to a flea market before was not quite sure what to expect. What I found however, I did not expect at all! Situated in Paris the Porte de Vanves flea market is a must for your next trip.
This location in itself proved as inspiring as the tradeshows- drawing inspiration from the past, rather than forecasting for the future and provided a nice balance to what I have experienced during the trip so far. Stunning antique furniture, paintings, postcards, vintage jewellery and fob watches, lace and buttons- and old! The age of the items is a reminder on how young Australia is- it is a wonder where all these items are found!

With a bag full of goodies, decided to transcend through time and view the designer ranges in store at Galleries Lafayette, Printemps and Colette. A special experience to be so close to such beautiful garments, and study the construction and fabrication.

Another inspiring day, and back to the apartment to draw.

Entry Three
22/09/2011 5:00pm Notre Dame, Paris
An Amazing Final Day at Premiere Vision.
In the final day of PV, having looked through all the Lace and Embroidery sections, headed to the leather, trims and component hall. There are so many amazing colours, textures and fabric treatments available it is enough to make any fashionista weep! Metallic Laces, laser-cut leathers and the most amazing components- buttons, zips and embellishments taking on new forms. It will be a difficult selection process when I am back into the office next week!
In the afternoon, equip with Swatch gold, I headed back to the apartment to get into designing. Very easy to get started after all I have seen in the last few days! Since it was such a lovely day, decided to detour by Notre Dame on the way home to see many Parisians and tourists enjoying the sunshine.

Entry Two
21/09/2011 4:00pm Parc Des Expositions, Paris
Two Amazing Days of Beautiful Fabrics…
Day One at Texworld, and today at Premier Vision world trade fair. It was very interesting to see the different trends between the two fairs as they were quite distinct. Today Premier Vision was an overwhelming experience, as the limits are pushed in terms of technology, design and luxury. Fabric of Dreams… www.premierevision.com/
Enroute to the fairs I have been enjoying my street fashion fix, with some notable colour and fabric trends… Women, are enjoying notable return to the sixties for winter 2012 with uncluttered design lines, short tailored garments, and floral prints. Men are still wearing tailored Jackets & Blazers, well cut shirts and denim in all tones. The bolder man it seems is indulging in a double denim ensemble.
Full of ideas I plan to start sketching for the new range tomorrow.

Entry One
19/09/2011 5:00pm Les Marais, Paris
First Day in an Exciting City!
This morning I was out early in the Sunshine on a beautiful warm Parisian day.
Being a Sunday, there were not too many Parisians out before 10:00am! Started the day with a croissant, then walked out into the streets down the Rue De Rivoli, headed for the Les Arts Decoratifs museum. At the moment there is a fantastic exhibition on Hussein Chalayan, A fashion designer born in Nicosia, who studied at London’s Central St Martin’s Collage. The exhibition featured some iconic pieces from Chalayans collections: Buried dresses (spring/summer 1995), Air mail dresses (autumn/winter 1994), and his Furniture-come-fashion collection, Afterwords (autumn/winter 2000).It’s very Inspiring to see designers who have influenced your work up close and in detail. The museum also features extensive jewellery and Furniture collections from 17th century to the present day. An inspiring first day, finished with some French onion soup!
